What are the benefits of tea?
Used first as a medicinal plant, tea is now the most drunk beverage in the world after water.
All scientific studies agree that it has health benefits thanks to:
• Its high polyphenol content - protective and antioxidant. Polyphenols help to fight against free radicals, substances which favour premature cell ageing.
• Its high catechin and theaflavin content - powerful oxidants and specifically epigallocatechin-3-gallate (ECGC) with its protective properties.
• Its high tannin, vitamin and mineral content… Several cups a day are considered to be good for health.
And of course, this does not mean drinking a herbal tea full of pesticides and endocrine disruptors, the tea must be certified organic!
Black, green, blue-green, white…... Which tea for what benefits?
Green, black, blue-green (oolong) and white teas all share the same benefits thanks to their polyphenols of which science and a number of documented studies have shown the antioxidant and detoxifying effects.
However, each tea has its specific character, according to its processing and also its biotope (sunlight, climate, soil composition, altitude etc). Black tea is good for its high flavonol, theaflavine gallic acid derivative content. It is also a balanced source of caffeine and also a beverage which is useful for relaxing and helps to fight stress. Think black tea for its high tannin content which will have a positive, relaxing effect on the digestive system. Recent research has revealed positive active principles for memory and concentration.
Green, black or white, it will will keep you alert and "clear" your mind.
Green tea is important for its catechins and its very high ORAC index (1253). ORAC or Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity makes it possible to assess the antioxidant capacity of a foodstuff. Green tea also helps to control weight, reduce appetite and gives a feeling of lightness and well-being.
The draining and detoxifying virtues of tea make it an excellent ally for slimming and well-being as part of a varied, balanced diet.
Choose white tea for its high anti-oxidant, vitamin and mineral content. It provides physical and mental energy and stimulates intellectual functions (concentration, memory) without irritating. It is also known to bring radiance to dull skins.
